Very nice presentation with references for further investigation. Only issue is where might the previous steps be found in case one in the series was not reviewed? IMO, this took considerable time and effort to complete. I suggest that a committee be formed within the membership to brainstorm and provide content for future published skills if there is a future. We should consider all avenues within our collecting universe as topics. Would it be a consideration to reduce the parts from 4 to 1 or 2, so interested readers wouldn’t have to wait 2 weeks for a follow-on publication? Our membership has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to specialized areas of stamp collecting, and we should tap into this. Topics can extend outward from skills to various collecting interests. Such as: Vatican. It should extend into other collecting directions other than singles alone, like covers or blocks or postmarks. I’m sure there’s much more!

a link to current and previous skills and their steps to the "Stamp Skills" page.
a progress bar so you can quickly see where you are in the skill
photos of stamps and tools
diagrams that clarify basic knowledge

The purpose of having 4 steps is to encourage return visits.

It keeps cognitive load low for true beginners.
It gives enough structure to test sequencing and pacing.

The Stamp Skills program is still in a pilot stage and was intended for beginners in the hobby. While we recognize the wealth of knowledge and experience of our members these other "collecting interests" can be addressed with another program, in the future, if resources become available.

Great training tool! I would include food where you note “drinks” in the tutorial. In the why it matters section, include reduced monetary value. I find it extremely difficult to pick up a stamp from the edge and work with it, as most do not have much area between the design and the edge. Look forward to the next step!

As I go through my accumulation I am trying to sort it out to a smaller more limited accumulation. I have already donated some material to different organizations. I have some material, for example several years of the APS Journal, which I would be willing to give to an interested collector rather than recycling or throwing away. Can you consider a feature of the website where items such as this could be posted?

We understand your wish to place philatelic materials—such as APS Journals—with collectors who can use them.

At this time, our website does not support a public posting area for free materials. Your idea is thoughtful, but our club’s size and resources make it difficult to maintain such a feature.

Please review our Donation Policy under “Donation” in the navigation bar. We encourage you to contact Rich, our club president, to discuss the materials you have. He can help you find an appropriate home for them, either within our club or through nearby clubs.
